AP season comes at the beginning of every May, two weeks of testing on content learned from the beginning of the school year to then. AP classes are college level courses offered to students for college credit and are quite popular here at Millikan, with around 22 AP courses being offered for students to take.
The AP exams are daunting to many students because recalling information from September is never an easy task, so how do people do it? From binging Heimler on YouTube to taking practice tests on AP Classroom, there’s so many different ways to study; here’s how this year’s AP students prepared.
COMPASS senior Cheyenne Saumier-Sugita took six AP classes this past year and says, “You have to just find something you love about the subject and connect to it, because otherwise studying will become a chore and you won’t want to remember it.”
Mr. Osborn, AP US History teacher, helped his students study by providing his students with the Crash Course review book. “Everybody learns differently, but for me what works best would be the review book, and I always tell my students if you know what’s in the review book, you’re gonna get a five on the AP test,” Osborn explains.

Many students found study resources outside of teacher resources or typical study sites like Quizlet or Knowt. Nick Gutierrez, PEACE sophomore, took two AP classes this year and shares a different way he studied besides watching Heimler. “I used the AP Study Game,’ on Roblox, it made [studying] fun and entertaining while enriching my mind,” Gutierrez said.
Some students took to making their own study guides, including QUEST junior Lindsey Sylva who explains, “For [AP US History], I made a comprehensive timeline and explained all of the concepts and put it in a slideshow for all nine units.” For her other AP classes, she found just reviewing her notes prior to the test as the most effective way to study.
Everybody studies differently, either two weeks before or two months, but all AP students are in it together. But either way, sending good vibes and fives your way!
