For a long time we’ve seen the debate of Marvel or DC and for a while it typically was Marvel winning, with their fan favorite superheroes and nostalgic films. After their movie Endgame in 2019, things got more focused on quantity over quality while trying to fill in timeline holes and some fans started to slowly lose the nostalgic feeling they grew up on.
“I believe that after Endgame most movies and tv series they created weren’t as good and I believe they put them out just to catch up on timelines for upcoming bigger movies like I stated previously” stated Matthew Fausto a sophomore in PEACE.
While Marvel struggled, DC capitalized prioritizing quality over quantity with “Superman,” which had total earnings of more than $600 million at the box office making more worldwide then the Marvel movie “Fantastic 4: First Steps” that followed 14 days later.

“I think they had a strong comeback with Superman making his comeback with this past movie in July, and now they there bringing in supergirl it’ll make them pop off even more.” continued Matthew.
Marvel is looking for their big comeback, and this year might just be it in the eyes of the fans with highly anticipated movies such as “Spider-Man Brand New Day,” “Avengers Doomsday,” along with new shows and specials “Vison Quest” and “The Punisher: One Last Kill.” They also came out with a new season of “Daredevil: Born Again.” In September, Marvel will be putting out “Avengers Endgame” back into theaters with “new” scenes as a final push to “Avengers Doomsday.”
“I think if they actually add good scenes it could work, especially if it involves something with Steve returning the infinity stones,” said Natalie Daigle, a Sophomore in COMPASS.
In 2025, we had “Superhero Summer” with Superman coming out for DC and “Fantastic 4: First Steps” following it and things started to look up for both franchises. We are going to see if this summer becomes a back-to-back Superhero Summer having “Supergirl” comes out on June 26th and “Spider-Man Brand New Day” coming out July 31st.
“I think this summer will be an even bigger superhero movie than last year since we’re getting spiderman and supergirl all in one summer then the anticipation after spiderman to look forward to doomsday” stated Matthew.
Overall fans do still remain excited for this year’s upcoming films with “Avengers Doomsday” being a huge movie for Marvel with 27-28 core characters returning and that’s only what’s been confirmed so far. This movie will be tying everything together in their final film for the year.
Not only that but “Spider-Man Brand New Day” is highly anticipated by all fans. This will hopefully be a big year for Marvel after that quantity over quality struggle in the past years.
