Recently, there has been an increase in sports photography and coverage around Millikan. The Millikan Athletics page on Instagram is run by talented student photographers and managed by photography teacher, Mr. Coppenger.
Mr. Coppenger says, “ [The Millikan Athletics Page] helps build the photo program… [and] the sports programs, because sometimes people will see or not know some of these events or activities, so it brings in awareness.”
The Millikan Athletics page was created last school year and the aim is to highlight the photos taken by student photographers and generate visibility to all sports on campus.
PEACE junior Vivianna Gallardo-Reyes, Millikan Athletics photographer and videographer says, “A group of us [photographers] decided it would be best to share all of our pictures through an Instagram account.”

As the account continues to highlight talented photographers, it also inspires many students to pursue photography and video editing in the future.
QUEST junior Princeton Has and Millikan Athletics photographer says, “Ever since I started photography, I’ve been expanding to video and it makes me want to pursue a career not just in photography but media making as a whole.”
As the Millikan Athletics page continues to grow, it continues to inspire aspiring photographers to join photography class and become involved in the art. In order to become involved in the Millikan Athletics Instagram, talk to Mr. Coppenger and get scheduled to take photos for the page!

On May 1st, 2026, Sofia Alas wrote an article titled “Behind The Lens”. The article was very interesting, even the idea of it sort of breaking the fourth wall was very fascinating to me. I enjoyed the behind-the-scenes feel of the article, as well as all of the insight into the student photographers. I appreciated the quotes from the photographers about why and how they started. It gave me a new appreciation for these students and what they do for the Millikan community.
I really enjoyed the explanations of how these photographers each individually bring awareness to Millikan and its extracurricular activities. Each photographer covered in this article has unique insights into how they do it and what they do specifically, and it was interesting to learn that each of them has a different process.
Something that I would add to this article would be a section that gives a before and after, demonstrating the growth that these photographers actually bring. For example, maybe a section explaining how a photographer allowed for a certain extracurricular activity to gain traction or popularity. Other than this, the article was extremely well written, and I would absolutely recommend that others read it as well.
