After nearly two decades, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” was released on May 1, a sequel to the iconic 2006 fashion film “The Devil Wears Prada.”
The movie brings back major cast members, including Meryl Streep and her unforgettable one-liners as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton. There was lots of excitement among fans about how the original characters returned after 20 years!
“It was a really good movie, and it was nice to see the same actors play their original roles because I feel like the movie wouldn’t give off the same vibe,” states COMPASS freshman Mila Monzon.

After watching the movie (currently only playing in theaters), many viewers enjoyed seeing the fashion world return to the screen and liked how the sequel brought back familiar characters while introducing a new storyline for modern audiences.
Fans were also emotional seeing Stanley Tucci return as Nigel, especially after the actor publicly spoke about his battle with throat cancer in recent years. Many viewers online shared that they were happy to see him back on screen and admired his return to one of his most iconic roles.
Mia White, COMPASS freshman, says, “I think it’s good that they’re using new actors and not the same repeated actors like Mason Thames and McKenna Grace. I thought it was good to see new faces in new movies.”
The original movie became a major part of pop culture after its 2006 release, especially within fashion and entertainment. From the outfits to Miranda Priestly’s cold but iconic personality, the movie remained popular long after it first premiered.
Social media reactions to the sequel announcement quickly spread across apps like TikTok, where fans shared theories, opinions, and excitement about seeing the characters again. Some people are excited for the nostalgia, while others are wondering whether the sequel can live up to the original film.
Whether fans watch for the fashion, the drama, or the nostalgia, “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is already becoming one of the most admired pop culture releases of the year.
