“This CIF win wasn’t just a reflection of work put in this year, it was also everything that was done by past players in the years leading up to this,” said Varsity Captain Bella Nunez, a senior in COMPASS.
This is Millikan girls soccer’s 1st CIF title in the program, marking it as a historical achievement for them as a team.
Millikan girls soccer won the CIF-SS D2 championship (California Interscholastic Federation Southern Selection Division 2) over Ayala High School 1-0 at Veterans Stadium on February 28th, 2026.
The Varsity team continued to the CIF California State Championship with a dominant round 1 win of 7-0 over Tulare Western on Mar. 3 at Millikan. A day later they went on to play Ayala High School in a rematch of the CIF Sectional Championship and won in penalty kicks 4-2.
The girls lost in the CIF State Regional Final on Mar. 7 at Millikan against Quartz Hill High School with the final score being 0-1.
The head of the girls soccer program and Varsity Head Coach, Tino Nunez, said, “I’m incredibly proud of this team and everything they’ve accomplished this season. Their work ethic, commitment to each other, and the way they represent our program is what matters most. No matter the final result, they’ve already achieved something special.”
Nunez continued, “When we won CIF it was truly a moment I don’t think any of us will forget whether we were on or off the field. It was pure joy when that final whistle blew and gave everyone the biggest smile as we were jumping up and down cheering.”

Jayla Cortez, a sophomore in QUEST, and current Corydon Staff Reporter, scored the winning goal in the CIF sectional final. “It was crazy, it’s like I don’t even know how to put it into words. It’s just the craziest feeling because we knew it was a big game going into it and being able to put it in was amazing,” said Cortez.
Millikan soccer already had a strong season winning the Moore League title with Varsity’s League record of 12-0 this season and 21-5-1 (win-loss-tie) overall.
In addition to Varsity, the JV team also had a great Moore League win going 11-0 in League and 12-1-6 overall. The Frosh team had a strong season to with a Moore League Championship title and a 20-0 overall record.

This article explains well how every girl from the soccer team always puts in so much effort stepping onto the soccer field. She mentions numerous quotes from the girls on the soccer team and the coach about how they felt in the game, about the results, and the team overall. These quotes play a significant role in the article because they well explain the excitement of their accomplishments through their words. Coff also includes the dates of the huge achievements from the soccer team and which teams that they were going up against that day. For example, she establishes that Millikan girls soccer won the CIF-SS D2 championship over Ayala High School 1-0 at Veterans Stadium on February 28th, 2026. As well as including that after their well-played season and making history, they had lost in the CIF State Regional Final on March 7, 2026 against Quartz High School with the final score being 0-1. However, this defeat did not tear down these girls’ incredible sportsmanship and positivity, it only made them a stronger and closer team overall.

I really enjoyed reading this story about the Millikan girls soccer team and everything they accomplished this season. It did a great job showing not just the scores and wins, but how much hard work and dedication went into getting there. The way you included quotes from Coach Tino Nunez and Jayla Cortez made it feel more personal and real, especially hearing how exciting and unforgettable that CIF win was. That part stood out to me the most because you could really feel the emotion of the moment.
I also liked how you included details about all levels of the program, not just Varsity. It was cool to see how well JV and Frosh did too, because it shows how strong the whole program is. Overall, the story was really inspiring and made me feel proud of our school. It was interesting to read about such a successful season, and I think you did a great job highlighting both the team’s achievements and their teamwork.

I enjoyed reading this article as someone who is a part of the Millikan Girls Soccer program. I appreciate the recognition that we have received during our history-making season. The article does a great job of citing key players and coaches in our program. The illustrations used throughout the story also capture important moments throughout the soccer season. This article could have used more context to what we were trying to accomplish this season or shortcomings of past seasons, to fully convey to the reader how important this season was for the school and program. However, the varying steps of the soccer season that were covered made the article much more comprehensible to those who have not followed the girl’s soccer season at all. The sequential mentioning of different games throughout the season makes this article an informative one. Overall, the author did a great job capturing the Millikan Girls Soccer historic CIF run.

I really enjoyed this article because it puts the reader into the scene that is talked about. Croff does a great job incorporating quotes from the athlete and coaches which allied myself as a reader to really understand the tension and feelings throughout the game and throughout the moments after their big win.
In addition, as someone who had not followed the girls soccer journey through CIF, it was very helpful that Croff took me through a step by step and game by game sequence to allow me to see how the girls got there and the competition that they had to face throughout their battle. The only other thing I would have loved to see would be a picture of them celebrating their win and the reactions of the players on and off the field. While Croff did a great job at setting the scene through her wording and direct quotes, it would have been helpful to have a visual aid of what was going on. Overall, this article really captures the essence of pulling off a big win and giving the team the recognition they deserve.

On March 24, 2026, Emma Croff wrote an article titled “Millikan Girls Soccer Making History”. The article was very interesting and informative of the accomplishments the Millikan Girls Soccer team reached this season. I really enjoyed how Croff included their achievements and their overall record of the season which highlighted how dominant they were in the Moore League and CIF. Additionally, I also enjoyed how Croff included some quotes from the players on the team and their coach. The quotes show us how surreal this experience was for them, the dedication, and work they put in for the sport and their team. I really liked how she added the achievements of the junior varsity and frosh team. It really emphasized how amazing the program and coaching is and what they are able to achieve. To add on, Croff’s writing was easy to read and to understand. Lastly, I like how Croff gave a simple timeline of their season at the beginning of the article, so we could see how they were able to win and dominate to make history for the Millikan Girls Soccer team.
