The place that provides packaged snacks when you’re having a craving, a canned drink for when you’re thirsty: the Millikan Student Store! Pricing for packaged snacks and canned drinks varies from $1.50 to $3.00.
Victoria Knight, Student Store lead at Millikan has been an employee at Millikan for ten years. Before that, she began her career at Cabrillo High School also as a student store lead, then moved on to Millikan.
“ [Getting to] build connections with the students is so awesome, snacks are just a bonus,” says Knight.
More than just a place to buy snacks, the Millikan Student Store has become a small hub of Millikan community, where students grab their favorite snacks and connect with the people who help keep the store running.

Jeremiah Todd Matthews, a senior in SEGA says “People are now more familiar with me [because of working in the student store], and are comfortable to come to me with problems or issues. But also generally just coming to my window.”
Some items have become clear favorites among the Millikan crowd. Ice cream bars and Otter Pops are a popular pick on warm days, while classic snacks like Flamin’ Hot Munchies, Honey Buns, Arizona Iced Tea drinks are regular best-sellers. For many students, grabbing one of these treats has become part of their daily routine.
The store also gives students the chance to be involved behind the counter. Interested juniors can apply toward the end of their junior year. Once selected, they begin by shadowing a current senior worker to learn how the store operates. After the seniors graduate, the juniors step in to take their place and officially begin working the following school year.
Students are able to go to the student store before school, during nutrition and lunch, and after school.
If interested in working in the student store, go and talk to Ms. Knight in the Student Store to become a part of this small, but important community on campus!

As one of hundreds of students at Millikan who have bought from the student store and appreciated its convenience, I am glad that news of its benefits and community is being recognized and highlighted by Millikan’s Corydon. I believe that explaining the purpose of the students store, not only being a place to buy food but a place where a community has been built, along with mentioning the names and words of those who help run it was an excellent choice at enhancing appreciation and setting up the explanation of the open applications for juniors. I appreciate how a quote from Student Store lead, Victoria Knight, was included and portrays her opinion and take on the student store as a connective and unifying environment with food as “a bonus.” Including a little bit about Ms. Knight’s origin, starting at Cabrillo and then transitioning to Millikan, was interesting but left me wondering what exactly she does for the Student Store as I and other students do not know her personally. In addition to this quote and small description, including more about Ms. Knight’s processes or what she does specifically at the student store would elevate the reader’s appreciation for having vital workers, like Ms. Knight, who allow the student store to flourish. I believe that her role is important and without Ms. Knight, the student store and its community just wouldn’t be the same.
The inclusion of a Senior student store worker, Jeremiah Todd Matthews, was also very notable. I loved hearing about how his experience in the student store allowed for the growing of his reputation, his name, and his array of community. Although, including a student store worker is vital to get student perspective on this article, also adding a student store customer could aid readers in understanding as most readers can relate to a customer rather than a worker. I have been a customer at the student store and not only am I grateful for the food and low prices that it offers but I also have witnessed the amount of friendship and community that it houses whenever I go. Therefore, if I have seen this positivity and warmth within the student store, surely other customers share the same appreciation and perspective. Bringing multiple perspectives to this article, by including a customer quote and perspective, could increase relatability and understanding about how the student store is seen from the outside.
This article is additionally on point with briefly mentioning the types of items and food that one can buy at the student store. I found myself relating to the Arizona Tea options and I have seen many of my friends eat snacks like Flamin’ Hot Munchies as well. The listing of these products near the end and their prices at the beginning really does tie in a positive image for the student store. As the prices are generally low, this frames the student store as accommodating and generous, being “for the students.” The transition to the junior application process was clear and concise too and including both who to talk to and what these applicants are in for if they desire to work at the student store is so convenient for the reader. Overall, this article does a very successful job at portraying the community and generosity of Millikan’s Student Store involving its connectivity, items, and applications as well as some student and adult perspective. Incorporating more sides of the student point of view, a customer, and more about Ms. Knight’s contribution to the student store would ensure increased reader appreciation and would add depth to the importance and unification involved with the student store. This would help readers relate to this article even more and understand both the student store’s achievement and vitality at Millikan High School.

On May 1, 2026, Lorelei Brennan wrote an article titled “Snacks and more: Feature on the Student Store”. I recently stumbled upon this article while perusing the latest articles published on Corydon. This article interested me because it is something that I can make a connection to since the student store is a place on campus that I visit at least once a week. The article also attests to this as Brennan says that “For many students, grabbing one of these treats has become part of their daily routine.” In addition to this, the article includes a quote from one of the students who works at the student store who says that people are more familiar with him and are comfortable to talk to him about certain things. This is something that really does strengthen the article and the school, since the impact of the students store isn’t just food or revenue it’s the ability to build new connections that can benefit the lives of kids on campus. To finish, this article offers the ability for upcoming seniors to be able to involve themselves in the student store working experience and gives a direct connection as to who they need to speak to which is a wonderful addition to the article.

On May 1st, 2026, Lorelei Brennan wrote an article titled “Snacks and more: Feature on the Student Store”. I think your article does a great job explaining how the Student Store has created a place for millikan students to connect at. I like how you include different quotes from the students and also the lead who runs the store to see their experiences. The part where you include how you can become part of the store really gives the opportunity for people who read this and would also love to work there to join in on the fun. A suggestion that could make the article even stronger would be adding a quote from a student that doesn’t work in the store to see their perspective and love for the store. Some people might be interested in hearing about their opinions as well.
Overall, this article is really intriguing and your writing is super clear, and the topic is definitely interesting to a lot of us. This article made me think about how the success of the store has brought together many people at Millikan high school.
