For students interested in creating a supportive music scene within the Millikan community, Music Club has been the place to be. Hosting daily meetings, Millikan’s Music Club has provided a place for students to connect, bond over music, and even form bands.
William Briceno, a senior in the COMPASS Pathway, and the president of the Music Club says, “I feel like people should join not only for their interests, but to grow. If you want to play an instrument, just come here and learn, don’t be afraid, we want to help.”
Millikan’s Music Club was started in 2004 by Mr. Prado, an AP English Language teacher in the COMPASS Pathway, who wanted to provide a place for students to explore their musical passion at school and with their peers. Instruments and amplifiers are available to students in Prado’s classroom, with an array of acoustic, electric and bass guitars available to students, as well as a drum set and a keyboard.
“Basically the idea is to just give space for students to have a place to explore music, make friends, create bands, and create groups, and then we have the performances on campus, Artfest, Ramchella, and various other activities,” said Mr. Prado. He added, “The goal is to get the kids out there to perform.”

Upon entering a Music Club meeting, students are greeted with a variety of sounds, from punk rock and metal, to folk music. Students are encouraged to explore their personal musical interests, and branch out to play with students that share similar interests. Students without any prior musical experience are also encouraged to attend meetings and learn an instrument.
Audrey Ramos, a COMPASS senior and the Co-President of the Music Club said, “[Music Club] is like its own little community, it’s a place where people get to play the instruments that they want, they get to do whatever they want, they get to experiment however they want. I just think that music is a thing that keeps people together.”
Students that are interested in forming a band, playing instruments, or just want to be a part of a community that is passionate about music are encouraged to attend daily meetings at lunch in room 2110.
