An unstoppable group of athletes.

This is the perfect description of Millikan’s soccer teams in the 2023-2024 season. The boys and girls Millikan soccer teams saw enormous amounts of success at all levels of play in their Moore League Season, the league where all LBUSD Schools sports compete in.

The Millikan boys soccer varsity team won their season with a 8-1-3 record. Their closest competitor being Long Beach Poly who ended with a 7-3-2 record. A great season played by the boys who spent countless hours practicing and training and eventually winning it all.

“This group, when they were freshman, were very good. Our expectation was as they progressed through the program they would be a strong group all the way. As seniors I expected them to do well, but they have accomplished a ton of things this season,” said Millikan boys varsity coach and weightlifting teacher Mr. Schofield.

Boys junior varsity ended their Moore League with an amazing 10-1-1 season. When looking towards next year, Coach Schofield said “Every team, every year is a different dynamic – because everyone’s personalities are so different for each team it takes on its own identity. So it’s me figuring out what that team is, figuring out what buttons to push to get the most out of them.”

On another good hand the girls varsity soccer team ended their Moore League with a 12-0 season going undefeated. Only letting in two goals during their overall season battle. The runner up to the title was Wilson with a 9-3 record.

The Millikan girls varsity soccer team has multiple Seniors that are committed to colleges who led their team to this title and were able to finish their high school career on such a high.

Moore League offensive player of the year and Senior Captain of the girls varsity team, Audrey Stewart says, “Finishing the Moore League Season on a good note was super exciting especially being a senior. I’m glad I got to make those memories with my team.”

Not forgetting the girls junior varsity and frosh-soph overall season and their season coming to an end with an overall 14-1-1 record ending in first for junior varsity and a 5-3-1 winning record for frosh-soph. Both the girls varsity and junior varsity teams had matching shut out Moore League records going 12-0.

We can all conclude that this Moore League season went absolutely phenomenal for Millikan, and none of this would have been possible if we didn’t have such dedicated coaches and athletes putting in the work for the success.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article entitled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season.” When I saw the title of the article, I was immediately interested. I have loved soccer since a young age, and it is nice to see some coverage about the Soccer Moore League season, as it isn’t covered as much, compared to other sports. Jamali does a good job of describing the season that both genders experienced at different levels of play. It was nice how they included statements made by the head coach of the boys soccer team, giving a little bit of information of his mentality and his goals with the boys soccer team. Both teams crushed competition in the league and Jamali uses very descriptive language to be able to express that to the audience to whom she is writing this article to. I highly believe that there should be more boys and girls soccer coverage, and I respect Jamali for doing so with this article.

The article provided a plethora of insightful information regarding the Boys Soccer team. It was presented in a manner that was both easily digestible and informative, making it accessible to individuals who may not possess extensive knowledge of the soccer team.
Regrettably, the overall record for the Boy’s frosh-soph team was sadly not included in the article. However, it is worth noting that the article did place emphasis on the seniors’ collegiate commitments and their achievements beyond high school.
This serves to highlight the success of the soccer program on an individual basis, potentially serving as a source of inspiration for incoming freshmen who may choose to attend Millikan based solely on its esteemed soccer reputation. The article as a whole was very helpful and interesting and provided insightful information about the success of our very own soccer program.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season”. This article is an overview of the recent season our soccer teams had, the boys and girls as well as all levels. It is crazy how all of them had such successful seasons this year as well as the results and stats which were given within this article. I gravitated towards reading this article because being on the girls soccer team it is refreshing to come across an article about the program. One concern I will include is that the boys frosh-soph team was left out of this article and their statistics. Other than that, this article is very head on and I appreciate the personal inputs from Coach Schofield for the boys side of the article, and the one and only Audrey Stewart for the girls. This season was definitely one that will be remembered for all levels in the program considering that our soccer teams are one in our league, and will continue to develop and adjust to the different dynamics as Schofield said. I also appreciate the photos included such as the cover photo with all levels, boys and girls teams, and then the photos of the varsity teams with the Moore League Trophy.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamli wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boy Soccer Moore League Season”. The article provided me with strong insight and shed light on the Boys Soccer team with me being personally on it, but have not given a lot of. What’s more, overall the article was extremely easy to read, and was informative for those who do not know or understand much about the soccer team. Unfortunately, while there were statistics on almost all the teams both boys and girls, the Boy’s frosh-soph teams statistical record was sadly left out. However, the article does highlight the decisions made after the high school season for the seniors showing how they commit to various colleges and their success outside of just high school. This demonstrates the success of the soccer program for each player individually and can motivate incoming freshmen to choose to go to Millikan purely because of their soccer reputation.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali, wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore league Season”. Jamali did an outstanding job providing great information on how the Boys and girls soccer season was. All three levels for both genders won the Moore league title which showed an absolute dedication to the sport. I’m very glad that you got a statement from Coach Schofield on how proud he was for the team, especially for the seniors. Millikan soccer just keeps getting better and better and are looking forward to defending the title next season as they predict they can do the unstoppable again which is to win all three levels again for both genders. Jamali provides that a couple seniors from the girls soccer team have gotten recruited and have committed to colleges to keep playing the sport. Overall this article had very good detail and was very well written about how the The Girls and Boys Soccer season was this year.

On April 11, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League season.” Throughout the winter the soccer programs of millikan were extremely busy and working their butts off for the wins and trophies. One praise that I have towards the article after reading it would be how the writer recognizes how hard the coaches had to work to create such great teams and sports programs after months of learning how to cope with new players and different playing styles each year. One concern that I have developed after reading this article would be on the statement that they won it all, because I was on the varsity team that traveled to Harvard West lake where we sadly lost 2-1 from our own mistakes and fatigue. But this match made each of us better players and people and also taught us to be better people.

This article was extremely well written and did a great job of summarizing how successful this season was. I appreciated the inclusion of season statistics for the teams at Millikan, and also the inclusion of statistics from the team which scored the closest. I also enjoyed how Jamali made sure to get a statement from Mr. Schofield, who is the Millikan boys varsity coach. This really showed how hard each and every one of them worked to get to where they are. I would’ve liked to see some statements from some people on these teams. Getting their viewpoint on how the season went could’ve helped the reader better understand how much work and dedication went into getting the scores that they did. Overall, this article was written extremely well. It managed to be both engaging and informative while summarizing the 2023-2024 soccer season.

The article explained this past 2023 to 2024 soccer season for the Millikan boys and girls team. Jamali did an incredible job with the piece. She begins just by offering the audience what to expect, “An unstoppable group of athletes.” The article highlights every accomplishment of the teams and their outstanding performances. Beginning with the boys varsity, the author made sure to give their score of the season to express how impressive their win was. Similarly leading with the girls and their 12-0 season in Moore League going undefeated. But making sure to include Rams junior varsity and frosh-soph teams really exaggerates the exceptional teams Millikan has to represent.
Jamali’s language through the article is what made it such a great read. She made sure to define portions of the article that some may not be familiar with, including Moore League as “the league where all LBUSD Schools sports compete in.” The use of coach and player commentary in the piece made for the perfect insight on the true feeling of those involved in such accomplishments. Overall, the article was a great well-written piece in which the author included many efficacious writing strategies.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season”. This article was engaging as well as informative. Jamali effectively reflected this year’s soccer season for Millikan and highlighted the big wins. I especially enjoyed hearing about the perspectives of the players on the team, as well as hearing about what Mr. Schofield had to say about them. I’m sure it is nice for him to see that the hard work he is putting in, and evidently the hard work the students are putting in, is coming to fruition with the way they perform. It is encouraging to read about a sport that isn’t talked about much at Millikan, but deserves more recognition with their accomplishments. I do wish there were more pictures of the teams, but I see how that is hard to get. Overall this article was very well written and gave amazing insight on what to expect for teams next year and hopefully inspire more people to attend the games and support these great teams!

I really appreciate this article because it brings the sport to the spotlight which we rarely see. I like how the author included multiple statistics such as records among Varsity teams but also including the JV teams which includes players that will have to step up for next season. I also liked how she interviewed the coach of the boys varsity soccer team, Jefferey Schofield. One thing I would have liked to see was the addition of the players who went on to be committed to colleges for soccer. Also, I would’ve liked to hear from the players perspective with possibly a few interviews from both the boys and girls teams. Overall the article is extremely well written and packs a lot of information in such a short, but enjoyable read.

One aspect I would like to be included was who were the senior athletes that are committed to play in college and which teams will they be playing for in the upcoming years. This article gives great insight into the accomplishments of soccer at Millikan. Though we are often overshadowed by other schools in sports that get more attention, like football and swimming, it is essential that students at Millikan are reminded that we have hard working athletes representing our school well. This article gave a spotlight to the soccer programs that are taking their athletes far and setting them up for success. Great achievements like this are important to the players, their peers, and the school’s reputation. This article does well to advertise the victories our school experiences and can lead to greater success in the future.
The quotes from boys soccer coaches also add depth to the article as they give insight into what type of dynamics the teams have. It is clear that the coaches are passionate about their players and the addition of photos from their victory show that the players are no less enthusiastic. I am curious what the coaches from both girls and boys soccer would have to say about how they achieved such success and their plans for future years. Excellent job on the article.

On April 11th, Zoe Jamali wrote the article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season” to emphasize the success of the soccer teams at Millikan this year. Millikan has always been competitive in soccer, both boys and girls, and this season they proved to be unstoppable. The Boys and Girls won the Moore League at both the Varsity and Junior Varsity level. Four attempts, four seasons, four titles, the perfect season. The feat is a testament to the athletic environment at Millikan and the effort put in every day by the players and the coaches. The article gives an overview of the season and the performance of the teams. One thing that would be useful if added to this article would be highlighting the individual players and offering some individual statistics, as well as the achievements of the teams at the state level. Overall, the teams were successful and it is an amazing achievement to go 4 for 4.

On April 11, 2024, Aidan Hernandez wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season”. I found this article to be very interesting and easy to read. Being on soccer, I really enjoyed reading it as it brings more attention to the team which I believe does not receive a lot. It could lead to more and more people coming out to games and other things. It was really interesting reading the words from the different coaches. What maybe could’ve made it better is more layer interviews asking how they feel the season went. I really enjoyed the first sentence as we have won back to back Moore leagues and are going for a third one next year. The article is quite informative as it doesn’t only just talk about the varsity team but also the lower teams which do great too. All in all a good article to read which brings more attention to a quite good soccer program which will only get better from here.

    Dear Corydon Editor,

On April 8, 2024 Zoe Jamali wrote the article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season.” The article talks about Millikan Soccer’s Moore League Season. Acknowledging the winnings of all the boys and girls levels, Jamali finds out how this came to be. When interviewing the varsity boys soccer coach, he explains that he has known this would happen since these boys were freshmen. All the coaches have seen greatness in them and have been waiting for this senior year when they are all together. Jamali also talks about how the girls soccer program won the Moore League. With some many seniors that were also amazing players the team easily won all of their League games. She also talks about how both the girls JV and Frosh went their whole season undefeated. I loved reading this article as it was very informative and fun to read about this amazing season.
Although I do love this article, I do think Jamali could get more quotes and testimonials from coaches and players about their experience. More quotes would add to the reader’s insight into what it took to train for the season. She does say it took a lot of work to win the season, but giving specific examples would better show why this accomplishment was so great. Overall, it was a great experience reading this as I’m part of the girls soccer team. I loved remembering winning this championship.

    Sincerely,

This article is written very well, explaining the work and determination required to succeed. Including multiple levels’ success through statistics is also very beneficial information to put in this article because it represents Millikan students from all types of experience. As Zoe also provides quotes from the coaches it establishes a better understanding of the experience the team had during season and after, leaving the season with their success. It also allows the reader to understand how the coach was able to lead the team to victory. Lastly, the pictures of the team allow the reader to better understand the feeling of the team after some of the best successes.
Although this article was written very well and provided sources and statistics to demonstrate the Millikan’s soccer team, an inclusion of the boys frosh-soph team could have made more of the team feel appreciated. Overall, the article was written very well leaving the reader informed.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article titled “The Boys and Girls Soccer Moore League Season”. Jamali starts off her piece by congratulating all of the student-athletes that put in so much work and time in order to have a very successful season. Jamali begins talking about the successes of the Millikan boys varsity soccer team. She dives into their incredible season where they finished the Moore League in first place with a record of 8-1-3. Jamali applauds their hard work and long hours of training that helped them reach the top of the Moore League. She then goes on to talk about the boys junior varsity team. They finished with a 10-1-1 record. To wrap up boys soccer, Jamali adds Mr. Schofield’s perspective on the great season he had with his soccer teams. Schofield explains that the soccer teams are all very different from each other when it comes to personality so he has to figure how the teams will be as they continue to take on their own identities.
Jamali then goes on to talk about the Millikan girls varsity soccer team. They ended their season with a 12-0 record which led them to being first in the Moore League. The girls soccer team has several girls that have committed to colleges in order to further their soccer and academic careers. Jamali gave us the perspective of Audrey Stewart, the girls varsity captain, where she expresses how excited she was to have finished her final year of high school on a high note.

I found this to be a very enjoyable article and insightful as well. Having a sister on the girls varsity team, I have kept up to date with their standings but it was interesting to see those of the other teams. It is so impressive how well everyone did this year. I went to almost every girls varsity game and it was so imposing to see their skill and composure on the field. I liked how this article incorporated quotes from coaches as well as players to give more insight on what went on behind the scenes.
Furthermore, I really enjoyed that this article mentioned the records of all of this year’s teams so that everyone got a moment in the spotlight. I think that this article is important for giving the teams the attention they deserve for how well they played. I also really enjoyed the photography in this article as it made it visually appealing as well. The photo of the varsity team celebrating after a goal is a great symbol of their entire season. Overall I found this article to be very fun to read and I am excited to see what the next season holds for Millikan soccer.

On April 8, 2024, Zoe Jamali wrote an article titled “The Girls and Boys Soccer Moore League Season.” She highlights the seasons with the phrase “An unstoppable group of athletes” and how they represent Millikan, which is a great start and entrance to introduce the two teams. The feature of the Boys’ soccer team’s records was a great add to show their success, and mentioning the runners-ups is an excellent form of sportsmanship. However, including all the boys’ teams from Varsity, JV, and Frosh/soph would be good as it highlights the program as a unit or one big team together despite the three different leveled teams. Also, a quote from one of the team captains on their perspective of the team could allow others to see that they are not just some school team and have insight into what it means to be a RAM athlete. However, the statement from the coach is a great spotlight and reminder of the hard work put in by the student-athletes and the coach’s efforts. When mentioning the women’s soccer team, all the teams mentioned were featureful as JV is not often mentioned. Still, mostly Frosh/Soph is brought up as they are sometimes deemed irrelevant or not as important to the school record. As for the influence of the team records and second runner-up again, great job giving them their credit for hard work. The quote from Audrey Stewart was a great way to show and help represent the courage and compassion of the captives in the team. But like you did with the boy’s soccer team and the statement from their coach. Were you unable to get a statement from the girl’s soccer Coach Tino? But the ending statement made a great closure and a great call of gratitude to the program and its supporters.

This article mentioned that both the girls and boys soccer team won the Moore League championships. I am a part of the girls soccer team and glad to say that we won the league from all three teams for about two years in a row. As you can see Milikans soccer programs are great and are indestructible. It was not only the players that made this season phenomenal, but it was also the coaches that helped make this season great. These great students are talented and hardworking athletes that show their fierce personality on the field. This soccer season felt so short compared to the last few years. Being in the soccer team in Millikan is not an easy sport to play. There is many competition because there are lots of girls who are fighting for a spot to play on the field. Firstly, Zoe’s first sentence describing the soccer teams at Millikan perfectly encapsulates what the team is all about, shown by her reasoning in the paragraphs following. I feel as if the soccer team at Millikan doesn’t receive as much attention and publicity as it should, considering our school’s affinity for the sport. Zoe’s utilization of the coach and player’s words is a nice touch to the article as it lets us see the insight behind the success this Moore League season and it gives us hope for more success in the future. Zoe’s article aids in acknowledging the hard work these soccer teams put in this year and it makes the reader want to support the teams too. Zoe’s word choice is also very crucial to the tone of the article; it fabricates an emphatic atmosphere. Zoe uses many energetic terms such as “amazing” and “phenomenal” which keeps the reader more in tune with the article and it gets the reader amped up for these teams. I think that this article was well written and served its purpose to the utmost extent.

I am so happy to see Millikan’s soccer team do well and witness the success they had this last season. It’s an awesome feeling when you can share success as an athlete with another sports team at Millikan. I play varsity football for Millikan and we saw a lot of success as well last year. It’s really cool to share the same feeling with another group of athletes on campus. I am so happy to see that we had a better record than Long Beach Poly! That’s still one thing we have to accomplish this upcoming season is beating the Jackrabbits once and for all. It’s really awesome to see how the freshmen athletes were able to step up and play a big role in the wins for Millikan this season as well. looks like we are going to have a lot more wins coming up in the upcoming seasons!
