Our local Cal State Long Beach Men’s Volleyball team has been ranked as the number one men’s college indoor volleyball team in the Nation, in their division (the Big West), during the past three weeks from Jan. 29-Feb. 5, 2024.
The Men’s Volleyball Instagram page posted on Jan. 29 that they were ranked number 1 in the Nation and stated in the post, “Cal State Long Beach is ranked No. 1 among ‘national universities.’”
During this time, Beach maintained a winning streak of eight games. Beach has won the NCAA National Championships in 1991, 2018, and 2019 and has produced 15 Olympians. This year Beach is on the same track to success.
Player and student Skyler Varga agrees as well. “We’ve got a lot of competition coming up like UCLA which is gonna be a tough match.” He also shared with Corydon that to prepare for games like these the team watches film on the other team and has game plan meetings.
Their defense stands out very strongly and they’re able to execute and attack efficiently to score points. Beach also has plenty of good serves, blocks, and rallies. By mastering these aspects of the game, Beach has managed to beat most of the teams they’ve played in three sets, best out of five.
In the next month, they’ll be facing more rigorous teams such as Penn State, U.C. Santa Barbara, and Hawaii Universities. All of these teams are having similarly good seasons, which shows that these games will be more of a challenge for Beach.
Tickets are usually $12, plus parking and you can’t get in with your student ID, but it’s definitely worth it to watch Beach play. If you would like to see the team in a match, you can watch their next home game against UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Mar. 8, 2024, at the Walter Pyramid.

This article gave outstanding information on how Cal states Long Beach men’s volleyball are doing in season right now. They have a winning streak of eight games at this moment. Right now they are ranked number one in the nation among national universities. In the next month or so, they will be facing some big competition against Penn state, UC Santa Barbara, and Hawaii Universities, which will be a good challenge for beach without a doubt. Beach has very good defense that stands out very strongly and they’re able to execute an attack efficiently to score points, says Varley. Beach has very good potential on becoming NCAA National Champions if they keep doing what they are doing in their season right now. Overall, I really enjoyed this article about Cal State Long Beach Men’s Volleyball, and gave great insight about how they are doing this season.

Rose does a great job at explaining all the accomplishments that Beach has achieved. She makes sure to state that they are ranked number 1 in the nation, and maintained a winning streak of eight games. It also provides helpful information about ticket costs and parking if you would like to go and watch a home game. She writes about CSULB’s success in the recent season as they had skyrocketed to the number one ranked team in the nation. She gets an interview with player Skyler Vega as he states that they have had success but they have a tough upcoming schedule. Long Beach state plays well offensively and executes defensively, limiting the amount of points there allowing. Beach has been able to successfully win in only three sets in most games as they do a great job of blocking, serving, and rallying allowing for their success on the court. Although they have played well recently they have a tough upcoming schedule which includes teams like Penn st, U.C Santa Barbara, and Hawaii. Varley also promotes for students to go to the games by including ticket prices for students as they can watch their local college compete against the best in the nation.

In this article Varley talks about the success the CSULB Men’s Volleyball team has been having during their current season. They are currently ranked number one in their division and have a history of great success. They have big matches coming up that sound exciting, especially the game against University of Hawaii. She also describes their strategies they use to have success in their matches such as great defense and onfense as well as watching tapes or match videos to know what they’re coming up against.
I really enjoyed this article and believe more should be cover on the volleyball scene since its a big part of the Long Beach culture. They way Varley describes and lists they way the men’s team has executed their success is a really great part of this article. Also the inclusion of when they play and how much the tickets is great because it allows other who are interested to have information about where and when to watch. I really hope that this topic can be covered more because as someone who plays volleyball its great to hear about what’s happening in the volleyball world in my area.

On October 17, 2023, Rose Varley wrote an article titled “Cal State Long Beach Men’s Volleyball Are The Number One Team In The Nation”. Varley’s article is very informative about the team itself and their records that they have made. The inclusion of the past records such as how they have been National Champions in past years allows us to know that this isn’t the first time this has happened. Therefore, we know that our team is continuing to improve and fight to hold this title. It also shows that the coaches and players on this team are very dedicated and committed to becoming the best. I like that Varley was able to get Skyler Varga’s input on how they think that the next few games will go. It allows us to get another perspective and gives us a first hand insight on what the rest of the team is thinking as well. This statement is able to show us that the team is feeling the pressure as they think about their upcoming matches, but they are continuing to review clips and practice in order to be as prepared as they can for these games. Overall, Varley did a great job at giving us an insight and update about our local Cal State Men’s Volleyball team.

The article highlights the recent success of the team and the volleyball program at Long Beach State. For about 6 years now, the program has been competing for national championships season after season, having won back to back titles in 2018 and 2019. 2024 looks like a possible return to glory as the team sat 1st in the national rankings. Since the article has been written, the teams rank has fallen to 3rd, but that still leaves the Beach with a very good chance at winning the national title. The article is very informational about the opportunity to go support the team and see them play. The feature of a player is also very important and helpful to the article’s credibility. The Long Beach State volleyball team certainly has success in their future.

The article is very interesting and informative as it conveys the challenges the volleyball team faces in the upcoming weeks of games. My family has all attended CSULB for college and would take me to the basketball and volleyball games. Reading about the team and gaining insight on the layers to the game there are such as watching film, strategies, and plans prior to the game put in perspective the severity on each and every game for Beach. I want to emphasize and praise Varley for including the previous NCAA championships and background of the team, allowing for people with little to no prior knowledge of the school to understand the development of the program. Overall I have found this piece of literature to be helpful and intriguing, making me want to attend one of the team’s games to show my support.

Varley’s article was well-written and easy to read. Varley provided good context, allowing readers who may not be familiar with the accomplishments and standings of our local Cal State University of Long Beach Men’s Volleyball team. Varley used a vast amount of detail throughout his article. Varley did a good job clarifying things that a reader might not be familiar with such as the understanding that volleyball matches go three out of five sets. The pacing of the article was also enjoyable.
One recommendation I would make is to ensure that the information provided in the article such as the date of their next volleyball game vs. UC Santa Barbara matches and is accurate when the article is published. This article was published on March 15th, however, the article states that their next game is March 8th, so the information is not accurate when the article is published. Other than that, the article was intriguing and provided information that inspires readers to watch greatness by attending the next CSULB Men’s Volleyball game.

On March 15th, 2024, Rose Varleywrote an article titled “Cal States Long Beach Mens’s Volleyball Are The Number One Team In The Nation ”. Varley starts her article by statinng right away how long they have been number one in the nation for. She states from Janurary 29- February 5th, fornthree weeks straight they have been number one. I like how she starts the article right away with a strong fact. It makes the readers pleased that they clicked on the article and got the information tight away.
What amazed me was when Valrey had said that Cal State Long Beach has produced 15 olympians from their volleyball team. That is an amazing statistic for anyone who wants to attend Cal State Long Beach and do Volleyball. It was very interesting how Varley was able to interview a player on the volleyball team and ask them how they prepared. It made me even more intrested to read the article when the player Skyler Varga talked about how they will watch film before playing a big component Univeristy California Los Angeles.
As I am someone who wants to attend UCLA or U.C. Santa Barbra it is very intresting how all the volleyball teams at those schools are neck and neck. It makes a suspense to the article and influences the reader to attend the home games at Cal State Long Beach as Varley said there were only $12. I never knew that CSULB was so good at voleyball but becauseof this article I do know and I am interested!

This article was very well written and I enjoyed the information given in the article. I liked how they went into the programs past success and how they are currently doing good. I wish they had maybe expanded on either the players or their process to master the “aspects of the game” they were referring to. They also could have expanded on the seasons and past successes on Hawaii and Penn State to get a true understanding of how good those teams are as well. Altogether I believe this was a very well written article and does a great job informing on their season and the work they’re putting in for they’re rank. The pictures of the team playing were also a great touch to the article.

What I really enjoy about this article is the way Varley sets the tone. Throughout the article, Varley remains both dignified and informatory yet there is a congratulatory or even celebratory feel. Moreover, I feel as if this topic had to be attended to as the schools in the Long Beach area aren’t renowned for their athletics and this marks history. Varley’s article helps attract attention to our sports programs and aids in people recognizing that Long Beach is only getting started in terms of athletics and that they are only going to get better. I appreciate how Varley informed us on how Long Beach plays their game. It helps both myself and the readers imagine how they play and it also creates a desire to come out and watch these games to see the masters at work. The interview Varley used is helpful in understanding how the players both think and feel about being number one. In addition, the interview teaches us that we have to keep improving ourselves even if we are already skilled at our specialization. All in all, this article is very helpful in keeping people informed and psyched up for our sports programs, especially that of the Long Beach State Men’s Volleyball team.
