Heading into the winter sports season, Millikan boys varsity soccer has their sights on staying on top of the Moore League standings. The team has held the title for the past three years.
Millikan traveled to Wilson High to take on the Bruins in their first taste of Moore League competition. It was a deadlock on the pitch with the final score being 1-1. Millikan’s lone goal came from number 11, Jaycob Alfaro Plascencia, a senior in SEGA.
Ivan Cervantes-Vega, a senior in MBA, and team captain for boys varsity soccer says, “This season I’m gonna go out with 100% effort with my teammates.”

Millikan once again took a trip away from home to Poly High as their next league game, resulting in another tie, this time a goalless game 0-0.
In the next three Moore League matches, Millikan put together a three game winning streak, beating Jordan (6-2), Lakewood (2-1), and Compton (8-0).
Jeff Schofield, Coach of Millikan Boys Varsity Soccer and physical education teacher commented, “Each year is unique. Last year we won by a lot of points nine out of the 12 games. This year seems to be changing up a little bit.’
Celebrating the class of 2026 on senior night on Jan. 16, Millikan hosted the Cabrillo Jaguars, once again dominating, with a score of 3-0.
As of January 26 the Rams are currently 6-0-2 and in first place in the Moore League.

Dear Corydon Editor,
On February 2, 2026, Lorelei Brennan published an article titled “Millikan Varsity Boys Soccer’s Big Goal.” As a current player of the Millikan boys soccer program myself, I appreciated how accurately the article captured the intensity and pressure of this season. The descriptions of the early ties against Wilson and Poly reflected exactly how those games felt from the sideline tight and physical, and full of moments where one play could have changed everything. I also liked that Brennan highlighted the leadership of players like Ivan Cervantes‑Vega, because his energy and commitment really does set the tone for the rest of us.
One thing I would have liked to see expanded on is how the team has adjusted its strategy from last year to this year. Coach Schofield mentioned that this season “seems to be changing up a little bit,” and as someone who trains around him, I know his tactical changes are a big part of the team. Including more detail there could help readers understand why matches have been closer. Still, the article did a strong job celebrating our progress and recognizing the work behind our 6‑0‑2 record.
Sincerely,
Julian Bernal
