Our Girls Varsity Tennis team fought to get to round 2 of CIF as a Wildcard team ending with a 0.500 record. Their Moore League season record was 11-10 and originally didn’t make it to CIF, so they had to add a game against Century High School and won, granting them a wildcard spot into CIF.
In the first round they played Oak Hills at home on Nov. 5 and took home a huge win for the Rams. For round two, they faced off against Burbank High School at an away game on Nov. 7.
It was a super close game and team captain Londyn Tyler, junior in PEACE, reports on her thought process during the game, “It was pretty crazy… my coach came up to me and told me that I had nothing to lose… we came back and won 6-3.”

For singles (1 vs. 1), Tyler won her match, but unfortunately the team overall ended up losing 7-11, but they put up a great fight. “We’re definitely gonna get better in the future and we have more to improve on,” adds Tyler.
Before CIF, coaches changed their usual lineup and Head Coach Spencer Pozgay says, “We felt like we had a great group of girls and that we may need to make a change to be successful.”
“Us at the beginning of the season looked way different compared to the end of the season. I do believe this was a successful season in most aspects… Our best matches were in CIF so we can only take what happened this season and grow from it,” says Coach Pozgay.
He also mentions that last season they lost a total of seventeen seniors, added five freshmen and two new coaches to the program which was a, “much different dynamic.”
Camilla Speir is a freshman in MBA and states, “I was just happy that we made it to round 2 and that we went farther than Wilson… I felt proud.” Speir also talks about the team’s good chemistry throughout the season.
Girls tennis battled throughout their season and in CIF, so make sure to stay tuned for next year’s season!
