Many students are unaware that the College and Career Center’s newsletter is one of the most important and helpful tools available at Millikan.
In addition to being a space available during lunch, and after school for counseling and college application help, the College and Career Center in room 11207 also creates a newsletter that provides information on important university visits and other events on a weekly basis. In this newsletter, a calendar of events is provided, which shows important dates month in advance.
Yvette Aguilar, Millikan’s college and career specialist, claimed that most students are unaware of the College and Career Center’s event calendar, stating that very few students are subscribed. Aguilar believes that the calendar is one of the most valuable and important tools that the college and career center provides. “Most students are aware of college opportunities, but not what is in between, such as business or military options,” Aguilar said.

The College and Career Center’s calendar provides info on upcoming events, such as visits from colleges and the military, as well as helpful classes regarding financial aid and college applications. Subscribing to the College and Career Center Calendar is simple, click on it in the newsletter newsletter and add it to your Google Calendar!

On October 7, 2025, Oliver Sammelius wrote an article “ Are You Caught Up with the College and Career Center?, “ discussing the College and Career Cetners’ newsletter and calander. The writer did an excellent job pointing out a resource that not many Millikan students are aware of. I had no idea the newsletter and calender had so much information about university visits and financial aid.
The only thing that could make the article better is to include the voice of students. The writer included Ms. Aguilar, but they didn’t have any actual students talk about the newsletter. If they had interviewed someone who frequently uses the newsletter and got a quote about how it helped them, I think the article would have been a bit stronger. It would have helped other students relate and be more persuasive.
Overall, this article is really helpful as it provides information about a valuable tool for students. A lot of people are worried about college but not a lot f people know where to start or who to ask. The writer helped make sure students are aware they can always go to the College and Career Center for help or advice.
Sincerely,
Aldo Garcia

I came across this article and read it looking for information about the college and career center. While I have been there and heard some things about it, I still lacked lots of important information and features the center could provide me with. However, the article helped eliminate that with its exposure on an event calendar created by college and career specialists Yvette Aguilar that I find continuously important and helpful.
I really want to express my respect for this article because it touches on such a less-discussed topic. I know the college and career center is a great place to find information on not only college but business or even military opportunities. The few times I have gone, Aguilar has helped explain ideas and topics that may be daunting or confusing for students to understand. Her great reliability and specialization means her calendar will hold that same reliability for all the opportunities it has.
Sammelius’ article is something many should consider reading not only for its refresh on the college and career center but most importantly the calendar. I am certain this tool is going to help many students and my gratitude goes to this article for helping inform about it.
Sincerely,
Kellen Habig

Dear Corydon Editor,
On October 7, 2025, Oliver Sammelius, wrote an article titled “Are you caught up with the College and Career Center?” I read this article when trying to explore the numerous resources our school has to offer. It has helped me acknowledge the importance that the college and career center holds in our school, Oliver begins the article with addressing the accessibility of the College and Career. He writes that they create a weekly newsletter on university visits as well as a calendar, updated months in advance. I found this to be shocking as many people, including myself, have only been to the college and career center a handful of times.
Oliver mentions how he consulted an expert, Yvette Aguilar, who claims that there are very few people aware of the easy opportunities accessible around school. While many are aware of the college visitors, there are very few who know about the military or business visitors who come here frequently. Oliver’s interpretation of the many opportunities at student’s fingertips at the college and career center persuaded me to consider visiting more often, especially when colleges are visiting. His article is extremely important now in the fall as many juniors and seniors begin preparing for college decisions.
Sincerely,
Nora Schrock

On October 7, 2025, Oliver Sammelius wrote an article titled “Are You Caught Up with the College and Career Center?”. Although I’d usually turn away from a title that is a question, I theoretically answered this prompt with a “No, I’m not.”, which prompted my reading of this particular article. Although short, I appreciated his ability to summarize the vitality of such a resource, filling in blanks for students that are uneducated in the center. He provides the right information on who to talk to, what the center does, and why students benefit from this resource, in ways that are informative and driven.
It is clear that this article was written with care and precision, accurately recording the most vital information in ways that are easily digestible. Although students may turn away from such a resource, Sammelius provides a quick read that persuades students to stray from their previous beliefs. He utilizes credible sources (Yvette Aguilar) to introduce the College and Career Center’s calendar, a helpful resource for students that may be looking for certain resources or visitors. All in all, it is clear that Sammelius is an effective writer and this article is an extension of his capabilities as a writer.

I recently read this article while exploring the Corydon website, and wanted to highlight the importance of this article. Sammelius does a wonderful job of establishing that the College and Career Center has many resources that are not well known. I can confirm this, before I took a college readiness class I only ever went to the career center to get my work permit signed but recently I’ve been taught about the many opportunities the career center can give you from feedback on your applications to one on one practice interviews with feedback. These opportunities can give students looking for work or feeling lost in college applications a fighting chance. I think that the College and Career Center should be a key part of upperclassmen school lives. I also want to thank Sammelius for leaving the center’s calendar to help readers be ready for these upcoming events that could possibly help them.
One recommendation I have is to go more in depth on the opportunities available like the practice interviews and other resources they offer. I think students should utilize these tools and going more in depth and advertising would help many students discover just how important this place is.

I really enjoyed reading this article as it sheds light on the various positives of the College and Career Center. I feel as though most students completely neglect or do not know about how much the center can truly change their perspective on their future, and allow them to uncover certain opportunities that they wouldn’t know otherwise. Students, especially seniors, always have countless questions of what they can do in their current situation, and may not know that the College and Career Center has most, if not all of the answers. Articles, such as this one, can remarkably transform the available information and opportunities of students alike, and allow everyone to be as successful as they can be, while also finding their true interest or path that they would like to pursue.
I admire your concise writing style blended with the usage of credible sources, which has successfully allowed your publication to be to be fully understandable and extraordinaire. If you have the time, I would like for you to cover the most recent football game on October 10 of last week in which the celebrity, Mustard, had performed during halftime, Millikan had gained a sponsorship from Nike, and what the outcome of the game means for the future. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I had recently read this article while exploring the new stories of the Millikan Corydon and it has informed me on the importance of the College and Career Center and how valuable a tool it really is. Sammelius greatly emphasizes how helpful it can be to students while also mentioning how to access this tool and he explains its importance through saying that the College and Career Center “provides information on important university visits and other events on a weekly basis. He continuously mentions how useful the Center is to students and why it needs to be used. Finally, he provides a specialist’s opinion on the matter that further demonstrates the qualities of the College and Career Center.
I am very grateful for this article as it has substantially changed my opinion and view on the College and Career Center. This article has introduced me to the wonderful features of the College and Career Center, and enlightened me to the help that can be given to me for my future. I do wish there was more information provided in the article such as examples of universities and branches of the military that have visited the Millikan campus and what goes on during those visits. I believe that providing more information could only attract more students to the College and Career Center as they are more informed on what goes on during university and or military visits which can grant them the opportunity to know what to expect and it could be exactly what a student is looking for.
Overall, the article is written very well and is applaudable. Although on the shorter end, the article supplies much information on the College and Career Center and provides an overall picture on what it is and does. I’m very thankful to be informed through this article and it does ensure that students know the usefulness of the Center. I look forward to learning more about the College and Career Center in future articles on the Millikan Corydon and am excited to see what the future holds for the College and Career Center at Millikan.

I really enjoyed reading the article about the College and Career Center’s newsletter at Millikan. I appreciate that it highlights such an important resource for students who are planning their futures. Many student’s including myself, often overlook how much useful information is available right on campus. The newsletter’s calendar, which includes college visits, military opportunities, and financial aid workshops, sounds incredibly helpful.
After reading this article, I realized how unaware I was of how useful the newsletter could be. I didn’t know it included so many helpful updates about college visits and events. It made me reflect on how easy it is to miss out on opportunities just because we don’t pay attention to resources already provided to us.
I’d also suggest adding short student testimonials about how the College and Career Center has helped them. Personal stories could motivate more people to subscribe. Overall, this article was a great reminder to take advantage of the resources available to us.
