UPDATE AS OF 9/15/25
According to a Los Angeles Times article that was released this morning, “Eight football transfer students from Long Beach Millikan have been declared ineligible in the latest crackdown by the Southern Section, according to the section’s transfer portal…The Millikan players received a two-year suspension for violating CIF bylaw 202, which involves providing false information.” Two emails were sent to the boys Athletic Director asking for a comment, but have not received a response.
The 562.org website released an article on September 5th about the Millikan Varsity Football team. The article “Millikan Forfeits Two Games Over Ineligible Player”, stated that “According to a message sent to parents Friday morning, Millikan has confirmed that the first two varsity football games of the 2025-26 season have been forfeited due to the participation of an ineligible player, as required under CIF-SS rules.”
Also according to the 562’s article, “Players who transfer can also gain eligibility by submitting to the CIF-SS’ Sit Out Period, which requires them to miss several games to start the year”. According to the CIF-SS’ transfer page, 8 of the 15 transfer players Millikan has picked up are listed in the “sit-out period” or as ‘inactive’, ‘incomplete’ or ‘under review’. It is speculated that one of those eight players in those categories played when they were not supposed to. The name of the ineligible player is yet to be named.

This is the 2nd time in a span of 3 seasons that Millikan has had to forfeit games over an ineligible player. The most recent occurrence being in 2022, when they were forced to forfeit 4 games and also had Head Coach Romeo Pellum suspended, but returned later that season.
Millikan’s two forfeited games this year are a 27-14 win against Foothill in Las Vegas back in Week 0 and a 49-20 win over Newbury Park in Week 1. Millikan hosts Cabrillo on Friday at 7 pm to continue their season, now at 0-4 after the forfeited games and a loss to Downey.

I recently read this article while exploring the latest news posted on Corydon, and thought it to be an excellent example of why following school rules is extremely important. His article reports on how some Millikan High School football players have violated CIF bylaw 202 by giving out incorrect information about themselves. Luc’s proficient writing fully demonstrates the ever increasing importance of honesty, by demonstrating the consequences if one chooses to lie.
Luc goes further into detail about this issue by providing the previous occurrences, and the results that followed. After reading this article fully, I was left with how this news affects Millikan as a whole and what it means for the football team moving forward. Overall his attention to detail and thorough explanations define why he can be a trusted source of information regarding Millikan High School news.

On September 5, 2025, Luc Niren wrote an article titled “Millikan’s Varsity Football Team Forced to Forfeit Two Games”, I recently read this article while scrolling through The Corydon and it left a lasting impression regarding my knowledge of Millikan’s football team. Niren writes about the program’s history and their past regarding ineligible players and their coach being disciplined for past actions. While Niren brings up many points, I feel as if the article could use more elaboration regarding the quotes used.
Throughout the article Luc Niren quoted a variety of sources that provided an insight of Millikan’s situation. I do however believe that these quotes are what mostly structured this article. With that being said, a suggestion I would like to make is considering elaborating on the quotes used rather than just stating them. While I do appreciate the varying viewpoints within the piece, there could be more room for improvement and explanation regarding the quotes utilized.
Another suggestion I would like to add is covering more sports. There was recently a very intense game with Girls Volleyball that occurred on September 16, 2025 and there has yet to be any coverage regarding sports outside of the “Friday Night Lights” sports (Football and Song) Furthermore, the lack of articles regarding other sports demonstrates the idea that some sports are more deserving of coverage than others. Along with that it creates the atmosphere where students are only aware of football and the sports surrounding it. I appreciate all articles published and I believe that they provide lots of valuable information for all students at Millikan.

Dear Corydon Editor,
On September 5, 2025, Luc Niren wrote an article titled “Millikan’s Varsity Football Team Forced to Forfeit Two Games.” I think the article was clear and important because it explained why Millikan had to forfeit their first two games of the season. It was helpful to learn that the team used ineligible players who were not allowed to play, and that this was because of a rule violation. However, I am surprised that the article did not include comments from the school or the players about how they feltl about losing these games. It would be good to hear their side of the story.
Additionally, the article mentioned that some transfer players are still under review or in the ‘sit-out’ period, but it did not explain how this happened or what the school is doing to fix the problem. I think it would be helpful to have more information on how the team plans to avoid this happening again in the future. Also, knowing more about the rules for transfer players could help fans understand why this issue is so serious.
Overall, the article was useful and gave important facts, but more details about the players’ reactions and what the school is doing to prevent future mistakes would make it better. It was a good article filling me in on whats happening here on Milikan’s sports team.
Sincerely,
Julian Bernal

I read your article “Millikan Forfeits Two Games Over Ineligible Player,” published on September 5, 2025, and I thought it was really well done. You did a great job explaining what happened with the football team and how the forfeits came about. I liked that you included information from both The 562.org and the Los Angeles Times; it made the story feel balanced and well put together. I also thought it was good that you updated the article on September 15, 2025, since that helped keep readers up to date.
One thing I was a little confused about was what CIF bylaw 202 actually means. Maybe you could explain that part more or give a quick summary of the “Sit Out Period,” so people who don’t follow CIF rules as closely can understand it better.
Overall, your article was interesting and clear. I’d like to see a follow-up that includes a quote from the Athletic Director or Coach Pellum.
