Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is a private non-profit corporation founded by Congress in the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967, but as of May 1, 2025, President Trump announced its defunding.
Congress describes CPB as “the steward [supervision] of the federal government’s investment in public broadcasting and the largest single source of funding for public radio and television, and related online and mobile services.” CPB is the parent company of some of the United States’ most well-known news and broadcasting services, including (Public Broadcast Service) PBS and (National Public Radio) NPR.

PBS Kids, the organization that produced “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”, “Sesame Street”, “Curious George,” and more, has seen “345 million streams across all digital platforms,” according to The American Prospect writer Naomi Bethune on July 8, 2025, in “How Public Media Cuts Hurt Kids.” Bethune adds, “Research has demonstrated that these resources help to increase children’s early literacy skills, mathematical knowledge, and interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs.”
“Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood”, according to PBS, is a show “starring a 4-year-old Daniel Tiger, his family, and his friends as they learn key skills for navigating school and life.” Evelyn Carbajal, a PEACE freshman, describes that through watching “Daniel Tiger” as a kid, “I learned how to be responsible, which taught me to stay organized and not fall behind on my assignments.”

While President Trump has expressed that the defunding was because “CPB’s governing statute reflects principles of impartiality,” in Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media on The White House’s official website, AP Government teacher Dr. Rudman explains that a large amount of funding could have been revoked due to “budget shortfalls, ideological motivations, or personal grudges/vendettas.”
Both PBS and NPR are public, as CPB intended, which allows students to use their articles and resources for free research. The CPB organization provides articles on all topics with a high level of credibility. The organization has proved to be beneficial and educational to millions and has impacted the lives of the youth of the world.
