The Summer 2028 Olympic and Paralympic games are set to touch down in Los Angeles, California from July 14 through Aug. 27, with over 35 sporting events in total.
While many of the Olympic events will take place in the City of Angels, including the Olympic Village, where athletes are housed, and the opening ceremony at Sofi Stadium, Long Beach will host 11 olympic events, making it the second-largest venue-city outside of Los Angeles.
“Long Beach is now confirmed to serve as a premier waterfront venue for the 2028 Games…we are excited to open our doors to the world and showcase the culture, diversity, and spirit of our community,” says Mayor of Long Beach Rex Richardson in a City of Long Beach press release after the additions to the venue plan.

The last time the Olympics visited Long Beach was in 1984 and before that in 1932, for the Los Angeles Summer Olympics. Many of the same facilities, like Marine Stadium, will be sites of competition again, continuing the history that Long Beach has as a hosting city.
Originally, Long Beach was set to be home to seven returning events: rowing, canoe sprinting, sailing, artistic swimming, water polo, handball, and marathon swimming in various venues across Long Beach. As of Apr. 15, 2025, however, Long Beach has added four new events to the roster: beach volleyball, coastal rowing, target shooting, and sports climbing.
“This happens very rarely…so I’m super excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity to watch olympic level athletes compete for gold,” says Kendall Block, a sophomore in PEACE who often watches the olympics with her family.
To prepare for these events, some parts of Long Beach will undergo significant adjustments and changes in the upcoming years. More information will be available from LA28 in the coming months leading up to the games.

Dear Corydon Editor,
On May 27, 2025, Brina Sastyangkul, wrote an article titled “Long Beach to house 11 Summer 2028 Olympic Events”. The article was an informative piece about the history of Long Beach hosting the Olympics in the past and looking forward to the upcoming program in the summer of 2028. Sastyangkul does an excellent job at quickly summarizing the 1984 and 1932 Olympics held here in Southern California to preface the soon-to-be arriving event again in three years. She also includes a helpful infographic to highlight the LA28 Infrastructure Investment Plan that is enacted before the special display of athletic prowess. Sastyangkul includes a quote from tenth-grade PEACE student Kendall Block to express the excitement that Long Beach locals have toward the 2028 Olympics being held in our hometown. Her inclusion of the image of Belmont Shore showcases one of the many locations
where the sports events will be held. She successfully represented the highly-anticipated summer event as we prepare the community just a few years in advance.

This article does an amazing job at presenting information on the upcoming events that will be hosted in Long Beach for the LA 2028 Olympics. It displays a “how” and “why” factor that clearly gets the readers interested for the upcoming games. Furthermore, Sastyangkul does a good job in transitioning the past Olympics Games to the 2028 Games, and the changes and continuities between them. Sastyangkul does an outstanding job in finding sources through leaders around Long Beach to support her thesis. She uses some interviews such as the mayor and students around campus to add additional insight to how people are feeling about the events. It is impressive how Sastyangkul uses pictures and infographics symbolizing that everyone in Long Beach should be excited for the Olympics being hosted in their hometown.
Sastyangkul’s article is structured very well, starting with original plans for the 2028 Olympics, and ending with changes to the line up and how much they are relying on Long Beach. However, I think that this article could also look back to past olympics in Long Beach and try and compare how those turned out. Instead of just jumping straight into the future Olympics in LA, this article could start off with a flashback to past 1984 Olympics hosted in LA. This article does a nice job in presenting information to Long Beach residents in becoming excited for the biggest international event for athletics. Sastyangkul seems to portray the article into more of a resource page, allowing people to look in further to what specific events they want to know more about. This article concludes on an open note, stating where to get more information as the Olympics gets closer.

On May 27, 2025, Brina Sastyangkul wrote an article titled “Long Beach to house 11 Summer 2028 Olympic Events”. This article was effective in communicating the plan for the 2028 Olympics that are being hosted in Los Angeles, specifically in Long Beach. It is nice to know what to expect, as someone who lives in the city. I was surprised to find out that Long Beach is hosting eleven events, and that they will be taking place all over the city. The author was successful in providing necessary information to understand what events are taking place in Long Beach, and including the fact that it is the city with the second most events, following Los Angeles. Additionally, including the map of the city with the infrastructure plan allows the reader to visualize what parts of the city are going to be affected by the Olympic events. I appreciate how the article ends with where to find updates and more information if necessary.

On May 27, 2025, Brina Sastyangkul wrote an article called “Long Beach to house 11 Summer 2028 Olympic Events”. Throughout this article, Brina demonstrates the excitement and pride surrounding Long Beach’s expanded role in the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games is both clear and inspiring. The announcement that Long Beach will host 11 Olympic events up from the original seven, highlights the city’s growing significance on the global stage. The additions of beach volleyball, coastal rowing, target shooting, and sport climbing brings even more energy to an already impressive lineup. I really appreciated Mayor Rex Richardson’s words about showcasing the culture, diversity, and spirit of Long Beach because it’s a powerful reminder of how much our community has to offer. The return to historic venues like the Marine Stadium adds a special sense of tradition and legacy that our city has. As the city prepares, it would be helpful to keep residents informed through regular updates and community meetings about this event in the future years about upcoming changes. Overall, this is a rare and exciting opportunity, and I’m looking forward to seeing Long Beach shine in 2028!

On May 27, 2025, writer Brina Sastyangkul presented an informational article entitled “Long Beach to House 11 Summer 2028 Olympic Events.” The article demonstrates the events that are taking place in Long Beach, California. Sastyangkul does a brilliant job of recounting Long Beach’s history with the Summer Olympics. For example, she makes sure to mention how our Marine Stadium was used for crew regattas, both in 1932 and 1984. This will be the third time the Stadium will be used.
Sastyangkul goes on to explain how Long Beach was originally going to be home to just seven events, including handball, swimming, and water polo. However, Long Beach has since added four more events to that roster, such as coastal rowing and sports climbing. Long Beach is going to have to undergo many major changes if we want to host so many different countries and people. Sastyangkul quotes from Long Beach Mayor, Rex Richardson, who believes that Long Beach’s cultural diversity and spirit makes us a prime spot to showcase our country. Overall, Sastyangkul does an amazing job of explaining the Summer 2028 Olympics and their importance to the city of Long Beach. Nice job, Brina!
