On Feb. 9, 2025, Super Bowl LIX (59) was played at the Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. For the second time out of the last three Super Bowls (the other one being Super Bowl 57, 2023), the AFC’s Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC’s Philadelphia Eagles battled it out in one final game that decided who would be the champion of the 2024-2025 NFL season!
About a week before the big game, in an interview with Mr. Hayes, Millikan’s Assistant Principal, he said,“I would love to see the Eagles win. My heart is telling me the Eagles, but my brain is telling me the Chiefs.”
He was asked if Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce would be able to team up and dominate the game. “If you create your game plan carefully, you can take Travis Kelce out of the mix, especially [the Eagles] size, then I think they can do that.”

Super Bowl LIX: Mr. Hayes’s thoughts about the Super Bowl were perfect. The Eagles dominated in EVERY aspect of the game, winning by a whopping score of 40-22.
Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts easily won the game’s MVP award, completing 17/22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdown passes and only one interception, while rushing for 72 yards and one rushing TD as well. Saquon Barkely did not have his best game of the season, with only 77 rushing yards on 25 rushes.
On the receiving side, DeVonta Smith led the way with four catches for 69 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, the Eagles sacked Patrick Mahomes six times and had two interceptions, with one resulting in a pick-six by rookie, Cooper DeJean.
For the Chiefs, it was a game to forget. Although they did score all 22 points in the second half, they were blanked in the first half, with only 23 total yards the entire first half. Patrick Mahomes really struggled, throwing two interceptions, but did throw three touchdown passes..
Travis Kelce was contained well by the Eagle’s defense, just like Mr. Hayes had said, only having four catches for 39 yards and zero touchdowns. Rookie Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy was by far the best performer on the Chiefs, having eight catches for 167 yards with two touchdowns.
One thing from this Super Bowl that will be talked about forever is the Halftime Show, performed by Kendrick Lamar with a guest appearance from SZA. Lamar, who has been feuding with Canadian artist Drake since last year, performed his hit diss-track, “Not Like Us” and gave a devious stare into the camera when he said Drake’s name. Among many other allusions and symbols Lamar and his team implemented during the performance off camera, an ensemble dancer for Kendrick pulled out and waved a flag that read the words “Sudan” and “Gaza”, a reference to the wars going on between the countries.
Super Bowl 59 was a fun game, with the Eagles spoiling the Chief’s attempt to three-peat Super Bowls.

On March 3rd, Luc Niren wrote an article titled “The Super Bowl:2025”. I am an avid football fan and I enjoyed reading this article as it at least for me acts as a recap for the game I watched on that fateful Sunday. I myself feel like I feel everyone else suspected a Chiefs victory and a devastating loss for the Philadelphia Eagles, but like everyone else, we were shocked, excited and happy.
I had spent the whole game with my friends watching each movement, and the joy we felt when Cooper Dejean scored that touchdown, it was magnificent. I enjoy how the article recaps the game and its highlights while remaining unbiased, as much as I hate and despise the chiefs and Patrick Mahomes I applaud Luc Niren for remaining unbiased, I also as much as I disliked the halftime show enjoyed the coverage of it in the article. Like many we all expected him to play “Not Like Us” and unfortunately he did, and as the article says as well I did not see the protester with the flags during the performance.
Overall the article on the 2024-2025 season of Football was I enjoyed, from its lowlights and highlights, to the heartbreak I felt at the Ravens loss to Buffalo on January 19th, to an eagles victory at the superbowl, I enjoyed this article, as reading it allowed me to reflect on the season, and super bowl 59 ending the last 9 years well, as one can only hope for a Ravens win in 2026.
Sincerely,

Dear Corydon Editor,
On March 3, 2025, Luc Niren wrote an article titled “The Super Bowl: 2025”. This article does an excellent job of describing all of the details and events that occurred leading up to the 2025 Super Bowl at Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. This article uses great examples, such as Mr. Hayes, Millikan’s assistant principal, shared the internal conflict he had on who he wanted to win and who he thought would win the superbowl. Saying he wants the eagles to win with his heart, but his brain is telling him the chiefs will. This specific example gives a unique perspective as to what many fans of football were feeling ahead of the 2025 super Bowl. However I feel that having more examples of actual students attending Millikan High School could have shown a larger variety of opinions and perspectives. This article also did a fantastic job at giving us a deeper understanding of the game that took place during this year’s superbowl. This was done through facts and statistics, of players and their performance such as Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, and Eagles Wide Receiver Devonta smith and their dominant performances. The article also was strategic in reflecting in what Mr. Hayes had to say at the beginning of the article, by sharing how his predictions were dead on. This keeps the audience engaged and interested in what the author is saying. This article also finished just as strong as it started, by introducing a new fact about how the Eagles spoiled the Chiefs attempt at a three peat. Overall this was a well written article that allows for people to get a great understanding of the game of football and Super Bowl 2025.
Sincerely,
Colin Virtue

The article was extremely informative, giving statistics and analysis of the game. To start the interview of Mr. Hayes displays a view of a fan who just loves the game. Along with the interview it was nice to see the stats of the game. With Jalen Hurts winning Super Bowl MVP, completing 17/22 passes for 221 yards, two touchdown passes and only one interception, while rushing for 72 yards and one rushing TD. Saquon Barkley with only 77 rushing yards on 25 rushes, along with the statistics of other influential players during the game like Patrick Mahomes, Cooper DeJean, DeVonta Smith, and others. With the statistics giving myself and others joy from seeing the names of our favorite players from the game, yet we also get an insight into current music culture. Luc Niren also mentions in the article the halftime performance of Kendrick Lamar and guest appearance of SZA, taking a deeper dive into the conflict between Mr. Lamar and our second favorite Canadian Drake. Overall the article was informative yet entertaining putting a smile onto the face of myself and hopefully the many other readers.
