As the winter season approaches, the 2024-2025 Millikan Girls Water Polo games are set to begin. This year, the team is looking to make a strong comeback after a close 2nd-place finish in the Moore League Championship last year.
This year, senior Hailey Suttle, and juniors Kyley Seeds, and Grace Darby are some of the pivotal players on Millikan’s roster who can greatly impact the team. During the summer and fall, practices continued three times a week to prepare for the upcoming season.
From memorizing plays to conditioning and daily morning practices, the girls’ schedules are far from leisurely. The sport is a mix of intense stamina and strength that takes hours of practice weekly.
With only three seniors now on the team, Hailey Suttle, Maggie Wells, and Lilly Alexander, Frosh/Soph, JV, and varsity teams are filled with new faces and talent.
QUEST senior Maggie Wells said, “Everyone follows the same idea of trying to hype up the team and stay connected. Our team has always had a very close bond.”
Wells has been on the team for all four years and expressed how water polo is more than a team sport but a support system. Every player on this roster must trust in one another and understand the work they must put in for success.
Grace Darby has been on the varsity team for three years and has watched multiple graduating classes filter in and out through the years.
Darby said, “The team has changed in a way of being closer and having good team spirit. The seniors this year are very inclusive and good leaders.”
Water Polo is by no means an individual sport so work ethic is vital. The team is ready for their season with their competitiveness and team spirit.
