Millikan is welcoming a new face to its leadership team this year. Dr. Thyjuan Harris, the school’s new assistant principal, is stepping into the role with a clear vision to support students, staff, and families while building a positive school culture.
Before joining Millikan, Dr. Thyjuan Harris served as an assistant principal at McBride High School and the California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS). She first studied engineering in college, but everything changed when she worked as a teacher’s aide in a first-grade classroom with the Long Beach Unified School District. Dr. Thyjuan Harris explained she was “fascinated with seeing first graders learning how to read and it changed my whole trajectory.”

Dr. Thyjuan Harris went on to earn her elementary education and reading specialist credentials, teaching at both private schools and at Barton Elementary in Long Beach. Over the years, she developed a passion for helping students of all ages grow academically and personally, and she’s excited to get to know the students, staff, and community that make our school special.
As she steps into her new role, Dr. Thyjuan Harris also acknowledges that, “Our admin staff are collaborating, making sure that we provide the best possible education for our students with the help of the teachers.”
With her experience, energy, and dedication, Dr. Thyjuan Harris is ready to make a lasting impact at Millikan.
