Millikan Girls Lacrosse has just begun their 2025 season and they are looking to improve upon the third place Moore League finish they had last year.
This season sees some new captains on the team who hope to lead their teammates to heights this lacrosse team hasn’t reached in years. Seniors Samarah Perez and Sam Pierce are two of the leaders this team will likely rely on to top the other Moore League competition.
The team has been working on and off the field in the offseason to get to the best form of themselves they could possibly be.

“We started practicing at the beginning of the school year but don’t practice in the summer as many of the girls on the team play other sports as well,” said coach of the Millikan Girls Lacrosse team and Economics teacher Ms. Boyd. While it is important to grow as a team, individual growth from the players on the squad is important as well.
“This season I’m hoping to better myself as a player playing with more advanced players,” said Emily Linares, a sophomore in the COMPASS pathway.
Growing individually can be incredibly motivating for the rest of the team. Setting a high bar for yourself can impact the squad as a whole, boosting overall skill, ability, and effort.
In the seasons since Boyd has become the coach, there has been a slow climb in production year after year, making it further and further into the playoffs.
“In my first year coaching, we made it to the wildcard round but got knocked out, in my second and third year we made it to the first round of CIF but were unable to move forward,” adds Ms. Boyd.
Their first game of preseason was against University High School in Irvine, California. This game served as a wake up call for the Rams as University had a dominant 20-2 win. This game does not count for the Moore League standings, but shows that there is definitely room for improvement on the squad this year.
With some strong returning talent from previous years, the squad is looking for their first round one CIF win in years. The Rams next game is against Woodbridge High School here at DeHaven stadium.
