“Chromokopia” is an album released by Tyler Okonma or better known as Tyler the Creator. A long awaited release which topped the Billboard 200 charts according to NPR News the week of its debut on Oct. 28, 2024.
The album consists of 14 songs, many of them already going viral. Songs like Noid and Darling I, have been trending on social media, however, this doesn’t mean that the rest of the songs don’t have meaning behind them.
“Like Him,” a song about his relationship and feelings towards his father not being present in his life, is a very vulnerable and emotional song he shared with his fans. He allows listeners to dive into his personal life and how he grew up, providing a deeper understanding of the songs and the artist’s overall music.
Tyler the Creator is a widely known Hiphop and R&B singer famous for albums like “Igor” released in 2019 and “Call Me If You Get Lost” released in 2021. His music style is unique as he is able to experiment with lyrics and sounds which are shown in many of his songs and makes him stand out as well as brought him to his success. Rina Trank, a 9th grader in PEACE, states that, “ I think he’s so successful because of his unique voice and ability to be diverse with his music, meaning he can sing multiple genres.”
Currently on Spotify, he has over 50 million listeners and is the 49th most listened to artist on the platform. The day of the release got 85,665,784 streams and currently each song has around 6 million streams making it the biggest hip hop album of 2024.
He has an upcoming tour starting Feb. 4, 2025 first playing in Minnesota, USA. The tour will then continue into North America playing in places like Los Angeles, New York, and Boston, then performing internationally in London and Berlin. He’ll be singing his more recent songs alongside collaborating artists such as Lil Yachty and Paris Texas.
On Nov, 16-17, 2024, Tyler hosted the music festival Camp Flog Gnaw at Dodgers Stadium where he performed the Chromokopia album for the first time. He sang “Sticky” featuring Sexxy Red, bringing her out on stage and “St. Chroma.” He also played previously released songs and albums like “See You Again” and “She.”
Chromakopia has been an impactful album and is loved by many. With his creativity with music he will continue to impact the music industry.
