The Millikan Girls Tennis 2024 season has come to an end with junior varsity closing the season with three wins, not including preseason where they won four games. Varsity won six of their 10 in-season games and four of their six preseason ones.
Liliana Seja, a freshman in PEACE and a doubles player on JV girl’s tennis says, “I think it went good, we got mostly wins but as a mental game it was really good.”
JV won three regular season games and they won 4 preseason games. In the end, JV split 2nd place with Wilson High School’s girls Tennis team. Junior Varsity also had their preseason schedule changed many times due to heat so they had to play those games after their actual season came to an end.
The head coach of Millikan Tennis, Spencer Pozgay, says, “They split second with Wilson so even though there’s not that many teams for JV, being able to still beat Wilson is always a successful season.”
Millikan Girl’s Tennis reached round two of CIF but did not move on. They did, however, also have one Varsity doubles team make it to CIF individuals and that team was Elizabeth Torres and Maya Cummings and they also had a doubles team place 4th in Moore League that pair was Erica Cummings and Kloe Thurmond.
Leia Grey, a freshman in PEACE who is a singles player on Varsity says, “As a team we did pretty good.” This year, Varsity had the one doubles team make it to CIF and overall they had a good season, finishing 3rd in the rankings. In total, Varsity went 10-6 winning 4 of their 6 preseason games and 6 of their 10 regular season games as well.
“Every single match even if we did lose it was close so I would say it was a successful season… The rankings say we got 3rd but I feel like we had two matches that could have definitely gone our way and we could have ended up tying for first or second,” said coach Pozgay in regards to their season.
Girls Tennis season is now over since they did not get to move on in CIF anymore. You can support our Girls Tennis team in the fall of 2025 when their season starts up again.
